Hearing in the special CBI court in Panchkula in the 19-year-old case; The sentence will be pronounced on October 12
In Haryana’s famous and 19-year-old Ranjit Singh murder case, 5 people including Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim have been convicted. In the special CBI court in Panchkula, Judge Dr. Sushil Kumar Garg convicted the accused after nearly two and a half hours of debate. The five convicts will be sentenced on October 12. The culprits include Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the then Dera manager Krishan Lal, Avtar, Jasbir and Sabdil.
Ram Rahim is serving life sentence
Ram Rahim is serving 20 years imprisonment in Rohtak sexual abuse case and life imprisonment in Chhatrapati murder case. He was produced in the Panchkula court on 25 August 2017. Convicted by the special CBI court, Gurmeet was sent to Sunariyan District Jail.
2 appeared through video conferencing
During the hearing of the case on Friday, Ram Rahim and Krishna Kumar appeared through video conferencing. Avtar, Jasveer and Sabdil were brought to the court. The verdict in the case was earlier to be pronounced on August 26, but was postponed due to some reasons. Prosecution lawyer HPS Verma told that the final arguments of the defense in this 19-year-old case were completed on August 12.
This was Ranjit Singh murder case
On 10 July 2002, Ranjit Singh of Kurukshetra, who was a member of the management committee of the dera, was shot dead. Because the Dera management suspected that Ranjit Singh had written an anonymous letter of sexual abuse of Sadhvi from his sister. Dissatisfied with the police investigation, Ranjit’s father filed a petition in the High Court in January 2003, seeking a CBI inquiry.
The High Court, while ruling in favor of the father, handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. While investigating the matter, CBI had registered a case against 5 people including Ram Rahim. In 2007, the court framed charges against the accused. The accused were convicted on 8 October 2021.
Three people had given testimony in Ranjit Singh case
Three witnesses were important in the Ranjit Singh murder case. Among them are two eyewitnesses Sukhdev Singh and Joginder Singh. He said that he saw the accused firing at Ranjit Singh. The third witness was Khatta Singh, the driver of Gurmeet, in front of whom a conspiracy was hatched to kill Ranjit. Khatta Singh had said in his statement that Gurmeet Ram Rahim had asked to kill Ranjit in front of him. However, later Khatta Singh had retracted the statement before the court. After many years, Khatta Singh again appeared in the court and testified. Only after his testimony, the court pronounced the sentence in the case
Ram Rahim was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case.
On the basis of the letters written in the Sadhvi sexual abuse case, Ramchandra had published news in his newspaper. Earlier pressure was put on Chhatrapati. When he did not succumb to the threats, journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati was shot outside his house in Sirsa on 24 October 2002. 28 days later, on 21 November 2002, Ramachandra died during treatment at Delhi’s Apollo Hospital.
Although initially Ram Rahim was not named in the case, after handing over the probe to the CBI in 2003, the Dera chief’s name was involved in the murder in 2006 on the basis of statements of Ram Rahim’s driver Khatta Singh. On January 11, 2018, Ram Rahim, Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Kishan Lal were convicted in the case. Thereafter, all four were sentenced to life imprisonment.
50 thousand fine was also imposed on all the culprits. Gurmeet Ram Rahim was made the main accused in this murder case. The bullet was fired by Kuldeep and Nirmal was also with him. The revolver with which shots were fired at Ramchandra was licensed in the name of Dera Sacha Sauda manager Kishan Lal. The court had held Ram Rahim guilty of conspiracy to murder.
Ram Rahim sentenced to 20 years in sexual abuse case
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years in jail on 28 August 2017 for sexually abusing two sadhvis. After the sentencing by the CBI court in Panchkula, Dera followers came out on violence in 5 states including Punjab-Haryana, Rajasthan. In Panchkula, 1.5 lakh Dera supporters were engaged in violence for 3 hours. 31 people were killed. More than 250 were injured. Two empty coaches of a train were burnt in Delhi.
Violence also took place in Loni in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Panchkula, curfew was imposed in Patiala, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Mansa and Bathinda in Punjab. Angered by the violence, the Punjab-Haryana High Court had asked to confiscate the property of the dera and compensate for the loss. When Judge Jagdeep Singh convicted in the case, Ram Rahim cried. He was taken by helicopter to Sunaria Jail in Rohtak. Since then he is imprisoned in the same jail.
